MId Term Photo Post

My sample type for this picture is obviously childlike typography. I literarily had my 2 year old nephew write his name, mind you he doesn't write that well so I had him do it about 50 times. This photo was the best example of a readable type coming from a childlike source, or from an actual child. its in a from that can be read but at the same time has no true form or size dimensions. By the way the word is Atly.

The sample here of an example Typographical error. But mine is a design of a word that intentionally has had an error implicated to make a new or special design. I feel that in the days of texting and instant messages a new type of communication has come to fruition. you see more and more no a days the implications of numbers and symbols meshed together to create words that have a unique look and design. i just created this one in photoshop but your can make it in any word processing program.

This one is of the sample type Asian Typography. Its a Tattoo on my brothers shoulders with a asian symbol in the middle that translates to imagination in english, and on each side of symbol it has a graffiti type design that at first glance you just see a cool tribal design, YET if you really look at it you see it says real on the left and real on the right BUT the symbol is mirrored from one side to the other. It's a very unique design and required some REAL IMAGINATION.

This is a sample of Historical typography. Its taken from my local newspaper The Frederick News Post. I see it as a historical type of type due to the classic celtic appearance and the script feel of the heading of the newspaper. It reminds me of the letters your would see at the beginning of a fairy tale where the first letter is five lines tall  and super wide but the rest of the page is set as a much smaller font size.

For Business/Banking typography I immediately notice the numbers at the bottom of my checks. The numbers have a very unique design in that they don't just look like regular numbers but they have almost a futuristic bold features to the ends and through out the actual numbers. They almost have a feature similar to an old typewriter. i feel it might be done this way not at a cool effect but rather to assure there is no confusion in a computer or a scanner that these numbers are not letters

This is a sample of the logo typography. I took the picture of my fan, and its logo design on the front of the fan. I feel its a bold design to stand out and they made it a strong metal color on a plain white plastic cover. Lasko is the logos name and I feel it could have been cooler if
the logo had some how been a little bigger or more unique its type. but still a strong design.

  1. i love the childlike hand writing. it would interesting to see how people read it if they didn't know what it said.

i also think your pick for the historical type is cool. to me it looks a lot like the gutenburg bible type. since it's a newspaper, it makes sense for it reference the printing press.

  2. Bravo Atty, for coming up with your own type face and for Trevor to have recognized it as such! I love how the "y" underlines his name and brings it all together in one cohesive unit. Well thought through, lol!

For some reason, It would have never occurred to me to use an actual child's handwriting for this category, instead I expected to see excerpts from the book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".

    Very smart!

  3. I've been looking for some "childlike" typography examples. I didn't really think of having an actual child create some for me. Great work!

  4. I love your childlike typograhy. Your nephew actually created a very nice design in the process of writing his name. He wrote it about 50 times? He also got a lot of practice in. Does he hate you now for having him write his name so many times? I know my kids would have hated me at that age.

  5. I have to agree with the childlike typography. I would have never thought to have a child write for me. And the tattoo example is pretty interesting too. If you hadn't told us what it said, I wouldn't have known though.
