Urban
This piece is considered Urban in its style and i found it from my brother who designed it for a nightclub that he DJ'ed at in Pittsburgh. I consider it to be an urban design due to its color choice and the fact that the imagery and type style is very nonchalant. Tho it is hard to see the information has to be searched out because it is all over the poster. It also uses a few different fonts and sizes both going vertically and horizontally in the frame. The colors or that of a night city with the street lights coming down, and it is for an Urban type of even with the music choice as well.
Graffiti
The art Graffiti is a difficult skill to master. I found this example of graffiti on the web and thought it was a very strong example for how graffiti can be both legible and illegible at the same time. when i looked at this first i knew it was referencing Mario, and that it said Ftwo Bros. But the top part still confuses me. I have guessed it says "THES" but i think its something else. regardless the design takes time and is very thought out. there are also many different styles of graffiti, and this is one of the cleaner ones.
Hand Painted
This one is an example of hand painted type, for no other reason because it is hand painted. I found this picture also on the web and found it to have a style all its own. first i noticed it was not on a flat surface to paint on, so right away it was going to have texture in the design. then i saw that some of the letters looked traced, but then noticed the "no" in the middle and realized it was a little sloppy. The marks on each side of the NO also where done freehand. the design is strong and simple and i feel best represents painted type
Interesting Color Treatment
Text type with interesting color treatment was an easy one to find. again i found this poster for the Innovation Awards in 2006, and liked how each letter of the word ideas was divided up and then had corresponding words underneath. all the word under the word ideas related to the concept of the word IDEAS. I found it cool also how they put such strong bright colors on a dull gray background, and that they didn't just throw in on a black background instead of gray.
Neon
Neon typography was easy to find, and i wanted to find one with not only had neon as the color choice but also some how used neon lights as its base for type too. The sign makes me thing of an old night club and the urban writing underneath only adds to the effects. I feel its a strong ad as well due to the strong neon color choice and that they made the image look like its lighting up the other words.
Suburban
Finally the suburban typography design I found off the web, but i could have found it anywhere. by definition the word suburban mean boring , dull, and plain. So this sign basically is just that. its one color, It doesn't have a title, and just basically says what the store is. The only thing that they did when making the sign was point out that there was a 24hr ATM, and they did this by making it a little bigger then the others. Simple and boring.

I love the graffiti example. I honestly have no idea what the "THES" says, but it almost looks like there's an apostrophe after the "H". A lot of graffiti artists have indecipherable tag signs, which is annoying, but I guess it's their "style". Where'd you find this on the web and is there any other graffiti art from this particular artist?
ReplyDeleteI love the "Commit No Nuisance" example. The hand-painted type gives a stern message a friendly feeling...funny.
